What is Botox?

Botox is an injection using Botulinum Toxin Type A to treat wrinkles.  It was originally designed to treat neurological disorders but is often used today for wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

What is the Procedure?

Botox is injected into muscle tissue that is surrounding a wrinkle.  It relaxes the tissue and blocks the nerve impulses that go to that area.  It will be noticeable within a couple of days and can last for several months, but will need to be performed again.

Can I Get a Botox Injection?

Women who are pregnant or nursing should not have the procedure due to unknown side effects.  Certain medications such as antibiotics and aspirin will increase bruising.  The ideal candidate is a younger person with a few wrinkles.  You will have to talk with a cosmetic surgeon to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure.

What Are the Side Effects of Botox?

Botox is considered a safe procedure but it does have a few side effects.  These include temporary bruising, numbness, swelling, and a tingling sensation. Patients should not rub the area during the first 12 hours to help reduce the possibility of side effects.

Can I afford It?

Our doctors provide a variety of financing options available to help almost any candidate achieve the look they desire.

Chemical Peels for Facial Rejuvenation

We see the effects of time spent in the sun, exposure to heat, and the effects of harmful chemicals on our skin as we get older.  A chemical peel is one way to turn back time as it softens the skin and removes the outer layer.  You can get a chemical peel with light, medium, or deep penetration to erase the effects of the environment that cause wrinkling.  You can use a peel in addition to a facelift for a younger and rejuvenated look.

Another benefit of chemical peels is that they can remove precancerous cells.  They are also used to treat severe acne.  While it doesn’t replace a facelift, it can help rejuvenate skin from sun damage. The procedure works great as an alternative that is relatively inexpensive with very little recovery time.  It is useful to fight premature aging that can turn into skin cancer.

Light Peels

Mild peels use Alphahydroxy acids to improve or diminish fine wrinkles, acne, mild sun damage, and uneven pigmentation.  They are composed of lactic acid, fruit acids, and glycolic acid and can treat rough, dry skin.  These light peels may be performed weekly to reach the desired result.  In some instances, with doctor approval, these peels can be used daily for short term use to see improvements.

Side effects from a light peel include redness, irritation, and mild crusting.  They are reduced over time as the skin adjusts to the procedure.

Medium Peels

A medium peel is designed to correct fine wrinkles, blemishes, and other pigmentation issues.  It is more effective than a light peel, but not as long-lasting as a deep peel.  For this peel, trichloroacetic acid is used and patients will experience mild crusting and scabbing along with some swelling.  They should stay out of the sun after treatment to avoid problems with pigmentation.

Deep Peels

Deep peels are used for coarse wrinkles and severe damage along with precancerous growths.  They use phenol which can lighten some skin tones.

Deep peels often require several days of recovery and can cause noticeable swelling.  It can cause the patient to be unable to tan and may require more protection of the skin.

A cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist should supervise all chemical peels.  Talk to us today if you are considering a light, medium, or deep chemical peel.
